Welcome to my website!

This winter term (2009/10), I am giving a lecture on mathematics for computer scientists (part 3) at Saarbrücken. While I am currently Frank-Olaf Schreyer's assistant at the Saarland University at Saarbrücken, I spent the summer term 2008 at the university of Erlangen as a visiting professor (,,Vertretungs-Professor'').

Research interests: Computational algebraic geometry, computer algebra, numerical algebraic geometry, real algebraic geometry, special varieties (e.g., hypersurfaces with many singularities), geometric modelling, visualization of algebraic geometry, algebra and geometry software.
Moreover: Applications of the preceeding, e.g. in computer science, architecture, and didactics of mathematics.

In 2008 (the so-called German Year of Mathematics), I organized the interactive exhibition Imaginary 2008 together with the Oberwolfach Institute of Mathematics.

I was mainly involved in the mathematical content and the concept of the software surfer used during this exhibition to allow non-mathematicians to experience algebraic surfaces intuitively. surfer is inspired by my software surfex which is not as easy to use, but more powerful than our new software surfer,

Several user-contests which searched for the most interesting surface took place. See, e.g.: Die Zeit, Spektrum der Wissenschaft.

Please, feel free to contact me if you have any comments or suggestions,
