Welcome to my website!

I am spending the whole summer term 2008 at the university of Erlangen as a visiting professor. I am giving a lecture on Foundations of Dynamic Geometry and a seminar on algebraic plane curves. More information on these courses is available from my webpage at the university of Erlangen (in German) . Together with A. Sarti and F. Knop, I organize an algebra and geometry research seminar called Emmy Noether AG; A. Sarti has a list of the talks on her website.

From August on, I will be back at my position as Frank-Olaf Schreyer's assistant at the Saarland University at Saarbrücken.

In 2008 (the so-called German Year of Mathematics), I organize together with the Oberwolfach Institute of Mathematics the interactive exhibition Imaginary 2008. I am mainly involved in the mathematical content and the concept of the software surfer used during this exhibition to allow non-mathematicians to experience algbraic surfaces intuitively. surfer is inspired by my software surfex which is not as easy to use, but more powerful than our new software surfer,

Research interests: Computational algebraic geometry, numerical algebraic geometry, special varieties (in particular: hypersurfaces with many singularities), geometric modelling, visualization of algebraic geometry, algebra and geometry software.

On this page, I present my publications, talks, software, websites, and more.

The subject of my Ph.D. thesis was the very classical problem of classifying hypersurfaces with many singularities, or more particularly nodal surfaces.

E.g., I constructed nodal surfaces of degree 7 and 9 with 99 and 226 nodes, respectively, which improved the previously known records.
